The impact of Whole Genome Sequencing on the daily workflow of modern clinical microbiology laboratories due to the continuous technological developments and improved bioinformatic pipelines is rapidly expanding. Applications include typing of pathogens during outbreak investigation, detection of antibiotic resistance mechanisms and virulence factor. The value of molecular microbiological results will thereby become more important. Due to the complexity of the data analysis and the reporting, the exchange about strenght and pitfalls of this new technology is particularly important.

The symposium aims to show the most important aspects in translating Whole Genome Sequencing to clinical practice:

=> Implementation of work-flows
=> Quality controls and data processing
=> Reporting of results
=> Applications beyond routine diagnostics - using the sequenced data from routine diagnostics for research and development
